Augmentative Alternative Communication is the individualized systems to compensate for the impairment and disability patterns of individuals with severe expressive communication disorders.
AAC can be a system or strategy that augments or compensates for an individual's inability to communicate effectively. AAC is best described of as an integrated group of components, including symbols, aids, strategies, and techniques used by individuals to enhance communication. These four critical components are a part of all AAC interventions.
